8)Switch to your Library, and find the newly imported track. There should be only one. Select it, and press Command-I to do a Get Info on the track, and switch to the Info tab.

9)Verify information is there. The song Name will be the same name as the album. Since the Name will be what you see on your iPod, you should add the disc sequence number. The shorter the format the better. (e.g. xx/yy xx being the disc number and yy being total number of discs. Add a leading zero to the disc number if the total number of discs will be more than one digit. This way, the tracks will sort correctly when sorted by Name.

10)Switch to the Options panel, and check both the Remember playback position and the Skip when shuffling checkboxes Remember playback position tells iTunes and the iPod to make the file bookmarkable. Skip when shuffling keeps the spoken word track out of your random music mixes.

11)Repeat this process for the each CD in the audio book, until you have imported all of the CDs.

12)Sync to your iPod, and enjoy.

The other method is focused on output. Commit to writing a certain number of words or pages a day, perhaps 750-1,000 words or approximately three and a half pages double-spaced text. The key factor is to stick to it until completion.

Winner’s Note: You may ask how do I get started after interruptions or even in my daily allotted slot so that I don’t spend a lot of time re-locating where I stopped? Start your daily writing session by re-reading the last words you wrote the day before.

Solution: Don’t become chained to writing in order. Jump around and fill in the blanks. Review your chapters and whatever subject or topic you most drawn to, begin there.

Myth 5 I am stuck. I have to stop writing until I feel it again.

Unseasoned writers may play the martyr and push through just to put something on paper or give up and try again another day. We would never get it done like that. When you get stuck simply close that chapter and pull out your chapter outline and choose another chapter. If you have been following this program, you have listed main points for each chapter. Myth 6 I just write whatever comes to my head and there’s no need to re-write.

My editor will handle all that. It’s o.k. to free write when you are working on your first draft. The idea is go get the thoughts out of your head onto paper. For no one can express it quite like you. Oh sure, there are some better or worse writers but not exactly like you.

I know this may not feel good to some but its smacks of plain ole laziness if you don’t work on making your copy the best it can be. Don’t leave all the dirty work for your editor unless you really can’t do any better.

Solution: Successful authors rewrite and organize their ideas for the most impact. Avoid re-writing during your first draft. Concentrate on finishing each chapter then you’re your tracking time to self-edit: Check your ideas for flow, grammar, spelling, and chapter endings. Myth 7 I have to do it all myself.

How does buying a book on Kindle 2 compare to buying a regular book?

If you want to read a new traditional book you will have to go to the store. This can be time consuming and if you are like me and have kids your free time is severely limited. If you are fortunate, the time it will take you to go buy a book and start reading it will be less then 45 minutes. I am not usually this fortunate. This is one of my favorite things about the Kindle 2. I can pick the book I want, pay for it and be reading it in under two minutes.

What about the price of the book? Is it about the same?

The books for the most part are cheaper on the Kindle then they are when you buy them from the store. The new releases cost 10 dollars compared to 20 dollars and many of the older books cost 3-7 dollars while the same ones in the store cost 5-8 dollars. The difference might be because they don’t have to print the books out. Where it is more expensive to use the Kindle 2 is the upfront cost of buying the system. Over time it pretty much evens itself out.

“Amazon charges 55% for it’s Amazon Advantage Program because that is what self-publishing authors are used to paying distributors.” This came directly from the lips of an Amazon.com employee at a recent publishing conference. Since Amazon is acting in the capacity of a distributor when an author participates in their Amazon Advantage program, they feel 55% is fair. Unfortunately for their customers, they are not taking into account their computerized processes and lower overhead (nor their $29.95 yearly fee).

In order for them to sell your book, they need to have access to it, which means you will need to mail it to them. That leaves you with $4.73 for each book. Now let’s factor in the printing cost. How much did that book cost to print with an off-set printer? It depends on your print-run, naturally, but let’s be generous and say it only cost $1.50, not including the shipping costs to you. Yes, this method has you paying for shipping twice, which is not unlike paying taxes twice. And who wants to do that?

In this generous scenario you are left with $3.23 of profit, plus the headache of shipping books, managing inventory, and accounting costs. You would like to list your book with Barnes & Noble.com, Powells.com, BAMM.com, and elsewhere, but who has the time?
